The beginning of a new year is a good time to affirm ways to improve your health and life. Quitting smoking can be one of the best new years resolutions you can ever make. This resolution is one that can give you some reassurance that you will be around this year to live, laugh and love with your family and loved ones.
Research done by the Center for Disease Control (cdc.gov) shows that smoking causes serious illness, death, cancer and depression. Smoking a cigar exposes your body to 4000 chemicals and 200 poisons and carcinogens. Do not be fooled into thinking that cigars are not as harmful as cigarettes. The facts are they are more lethal. The American Cancer Society states that "The toxins or irritants in cigar smoke include carbon monoxide, nicotine, hydrogen cyanide, ammonia, volatile aldehydes. The carcinogens in cigar smoke include benzene, aromatic amines, vinyl chloride, ethylene oxide, arsenic, chromium, cadmium, nitrosamines, and brpolynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons".

How Fat-free Can Harm Your Health |

If you don't consume fat at all, then your body thinks you're starving. In this 'starvation mode' or 'famine mode', your body tends to store every ounce of stored fat and thus you don't lose weight.
But weight issues aside, if you cut back fat from your diet drastically, that can be downright unhealthy, increasing your risk of heart disease by decreasing high-density lipoproteins and boosting blood levels of triglycerides. Creating Beautifully Shaped Eyebrows |
|
Beautifully shaped eyebrows act as a frame to set off your eyes, just as your hairstyle sets off your face and a picture frame sets off a beautiful painting. It's no exaggeration to say that brow shape can make - or break - your look.
1. Tweeze excess hairs. Working from underneath the brow to even up and clean up the line. Make sure that the line of the natural brow stops short of the outside corner. No problem. Use a freshly sharpened eyebrow pencil to draw a thin, delicate line to extend the browline to the outside of the eye. Blur the color, lightly with a fingertip. 2. Lift the Arch. To lift the arch of the brow higher, tweeze hairs from just below where you want the arch to be highest. This also instantly "opens" the look of the eye. 3. For Thin or Sparse Eyebrows. The eyebrows should be at their fullest at the inside edges, right above the inside corners of the eyes. If your eyebrows are thin or sparse, fill in with short, slanted hair-like strokes with your brow pencil. Follow with a stiff brush dipped in complementary eyebrow powder color. Use the same motion to apply it, adding more weight to the pencil color. Let the line gradually thin out as it goes past the arch of each brow. |

Cancer is the worst diagnosis a doctor can give, or is the tide changing? While an estimated 1 in 3 Americans will develop cancer, the prognosis of this once fatal disease has changed over the years. In February, 2006, the American Cancer Society (ACS) released a report which shows that, according to their most recent data, the number of American cancer deaths dropped from 2002 to 2003. (Note, there is a normal lag time before cancer data is considered official, thus the lag between the 2003 records and the current report).
This finding is particularly noteworthy in light of the fact that Americans are living longer than before and we have a much larger population of senior citizens. While America’s aging population resulted in a higher number of actual deaths from cancer, the death rate has been dropping, largely due to early detection, prevention, and better treatment options, according to John Seffrin, PhD, American Cancer Society chief executive officer. |

Lose Weight by Eating More |

Is it possible to lose weight by eating more? Sure, if what you're eating more of are high-fiber foods. How is this possible? Simply put, fiber is a natural calorie absorption blocker.
A study performed by the USDA found that women who doubled their fiber intake from 12 to 24 grams per day absorbed 90 fewer calories. This equals losing 10 lbs. over the course of a year. Fiber keeps you full, thereby decreasing the total amount of calories consumed per day. Fiber is extremely important to health and weight loss. So much so, the U.S. Food & Nutrition Board has set the first recommended daily intakes: men up to age 50 need 38 grams of fiber per day and women need 25 grams per day. To reach these recommendations, a minimum of 6 servings of fruits and veggies and 3 servings of whole grains are needed daily.
