The 8 Top Dietary Mistakes "Healthy Eaters" Make

 Most Americans, 76 percent in fact, believe they have healthy eating habits, according to a 2004 poll by Ipsos-Insight. Yet 57 percent of the nearly 4,000 adults polled also considered themselves overweight. How can this be? Either the healthy eaters aren't being active enough, or we all have different definitions of "healthy eating."

"People say they have a healthy diet, but what does that mean to them?" said Ruth Kava of the American Council of Science and Health. "Does it mean they eat an apple a day and the rest of the day eat burgers and french fries?"

Regain Your Rosy Lips

 Thin, lacklustre lips can make you look older than you are. As we age, the skin above the lip tends to elongate, diminishing the vermillion, or the pink part of the lip. This affects nearly 80 per cent of the aging population. There is a lip augmentation procedure called cheiloplasty to Regain your rosy hue.

First developed in Switzerland in the early 1960s by plastic surgeon Rudolph Meyer, the procedure can increase the pinkness of the lip or reduce the size of your lips. He make the lip look larger without actually increasing the size because it is showing more pink, says Dr. Lloyd Carlsen, a cosmetic surgeon in Toronto, who has been performing this specialized technique for more than 25 years. He can also use the patient’s own tissue to increase the bulk of the lip.

Itis an ideal procedure which takes about an hour under local anesthetic. Stitches can be removed after three days, but you should eat soft foods for about a week.

 
What Is a Low Saturated Fat, Low Cholesterol Diet?

A heart-healthy, low saturated fat, low cholesterol diet is one that minimizes these substances in the diet in an attempt to lower your blood cholesterol levels and reduce your risk of heart disease. When following a low saturated fat, low cholesterol diet, the saturated fat in your diet should contribute no more than 10 percent* of your daily calorie intake. You should also keep the amount of dietary cholesterol that you eat to less than 300 milligrams daily. The chart below can help you determine the upper limits for both saturated fat and dietary cholesterol based on your daily calorie needs.

Some individuals who are at a high risk for heart disease or presently have heart disease may need to keep their saturated fat intake to under 7 percent of their daily calories. Always check with your health professional for personalized advice.

 

 
What To Eat to Reduce Cancer Risk

 Muriel J. Montbriand, PhD, RN reviewed the research studies on herbs, supplements and foods that protect against cancer. Her paper was published in Oncology Nursing Forum. Here is a part what she found:

The best protection against cancer may be a dietary pattern that emphasizes fruits, vegetables, grains, and beans, and limits meats, dairy products, and high-fat foods. If a woman with breast cancer takes soy, she increases her risk of cancer growth. If a woman who does not have cancer takes soy, she protects herself against cancer. The American Cancer Society (ACS) 1996 Advisory Committee on Diet, Nutrition, and Cancer Prevention (1996) recommended the dietary intake of more fruits and vegetables to lower the risk of cancer.

Be Careful about Your Diet When Pregnant

 When you are pregnant, besides to insure you are supplying good nutrition to your baby, watch out for the following things:

pre Toxoplasma
Toxoplasma is a harmful parasite. It causes an illness called toxoplasmosis that can be difficult to detect. It can be found in raw and undercooked meat; unwashed fruits and vegetables; soil; dirty cat-litter boxes; and outdoor places where cat feces can be found.

Safety Tips
If possible, have someone else change the litter box. If you have to clean it, wash your hands with soap and warm water afterwards.
Wear gloves when gardening or handling sand from a sandbox. 
Don't get a new cat while pregnant.
