Find your best Prom Dress

Your Prom dress needs to be perfect – the dress of your dreams. But how do you know which Prom dress is best for you? Prom Pro Sydney, of SydneysCloset.com says: “No one has a perfect figure! The trick is to play up your assets and camouflage your figure flaws.” Here are some tips she's put together to make sure you get the best fit and have the dress of your dreams:

Fit Tips:

  • Realize Prom dresses run small - even the same size varies by manufacturer.
  • Plan on alterations for a perfect fit.
  • Never buy a dress too tight thinking you’ll lose weight by Prom.
  • Using a cloth tape, measure carefully your bust, waist and hips.
  • Keep your measurements handy when you shop on or offline.
  • Wear the right bra and shape wear when you try on dresses.

Flatter Tips:

  • A-line dresses hide wide hips and thighs; so do ball gowns. 
  • Camouflage your tummy or a thick midriff with an Empire design 
  •  Minimize your chest and maximize your waist with a scoop neck 
  • Lengthen a short torso with a drop waist design 
  • Scale down broad shoulders wearing an Empire design 
  • V-and scoop necklines flatter full figures 
  • Go for sheaths, A-lines and full ball gowns if you’re tall and slim 
  • Open necklines and fitted bodices accentuate collarbones 
  • Wear a ball gown to offset your narrow shoulders 
  • Create the illusion of an hourglass figure with a low (basque) waist
